My name is Endi Montalvo-Martinez. I am a community advocate, organizer, and lifelong Des Moines resident running for City Council At-Large. I am a proud son of Mexican immigrants, a graduate of East High, and a recent graduate of Iowa State University. I know firsthand what challenges and opportunities face working-class families, immigrants, and young people across our city.

During my time at East, I began to build a track record of fighting for justice. I co-led the campaign to reimagine school safety by effectively advocating for the removal of School Resource Officers and the investment of restorative justice practices. These changes led to a significant reduction in juvenile justice complaints originating from a Des Moines Public Schools building. I have shown what is possible when young people organize and lead in our city.

Currently, as a Community Health Worker, I work daily with community organizations to uplift the needs of our diverse communities. Working in a local food pantry, I see every week how many of our neighbors are going without basic necessities. I see everyday the crucial role that these organizations play and at the same time, we’re watching state and federal administrations slash funding for public education, healthcare, food access, and other vital services. I believe the city should work to protect our communities.

I'm running because our city deserves new leadership that reflects our communities, leads with care, and fights for policies that empower all of us. I envision a Des Moines that puts people first.
